Founded in 1995, Fry & Bonthrone is a registered partnership (Partnerschaftsgesellschaft) based in Mainz-Kastel, near Frankfurt.
Our company is not an “envelope changer” – a traditional translation agency offering all areas, all languages, and all volumes to all comers. Rather, we are a specialist translation company working for and with some of the best in the business.
Our goal is to provide customers in our chosen fields of expertise with the right translation in the right place at the right time. For us, a translation is right when it is both accurate and stylish, despite its highly complex subject matter. When it fulfils its purpose in a global economy where benchmarks are rising daily. And when customers can safely build on it in their own businesses, without having to spend hours rewriting it first. In short, when it is a cost-effective solution, not another problem.
Our specialization
We provide high-quality translations in the areas of accounting and reporting, banking and finance, law, business administration, marketing, and communications. With an international track record stretching back many years and a client list comprising some of the most prestigious names in the business, we have proven we can deliver on even the most complex translations.
Our translators
Our qualified in-house linguists work solely into their native tongue, and are both technologically savvy and customer-oriented. Rigorously selected, they have extensive experience in our clients’ areas of expertise. In addition, we work together with hand-picked external specialists with similar profiles to manage peak demand.
Since you can only translate what you understand, we train all in-house staff extensively. New recruits receive up to 40 different induction courses, some of them lasting several days. Subjects include IFRSs and German GAAP accounting, investor relations, financial reporting legislation and funds, as well as linguistic, stylistic, and quality training. A number of these courses are also offered externally through professional associations and universities. Regular refresher courses keep us up to date with industry developments, while over 1,500 reference works and extensive online resources ensure the information we need to do the best possible job is always on hand. Full quality assurance by the partners of all texts and internal and external feedback loops guarantee high standards and a learning organization at all levels.
The result? Clients do not have to choose between accuracy and literacy, but receive correct, stylish renditions of even the most complex texts.
Project management
Often, source texts are a “work in progress”, with frequent schedule and version changes. Advance warning may be limited or non-existent, and deadlines are always tight. Nevertheless, the consequences of late delivery, errors, and omissions are often considerable.
This is where professional support comes in. Our dedicated project management/back office team understands both your needs and the translation process. Flexible and creative, they are your central point of contact throughout, freeing up our translators to concentrate on the translation itself. At the same time, they ensure we have what we need from you to do the best possible job. Allowing us to help you as efficiently and effectively as possible, even when change is the only constant.
Security
We take the security of the information you entrust us with extremely seriously. At a technical and organizational level, we protect our IT systems against threats such as viruses and unauthorized access, as well as providing secure waste disposal facilities.
In addition, since much of the work we do is covered by insider trading regulations or is otherwise highly confidential, we have implemented an end-to-end compliance and confidentiality concept. All internal employees receive specific training on this issue on arrival and sign the corresponding declarations. Our in-house business model allows us to ensure that particularly confidential material never leaves the office, while any freelancers we do use are also bound by appropriate legal agreements.
Technology
We use state-of-the-art technology wherever possible for research and information retrieval, for translation, and to automate and accelerate data transfer and administrative tasks. This helps maintain the flexibility and speed that are so important in today’s business environment, as well as aiding quality and consistency. Nevertheless, the day when machines can replace humans for the complex and stylistically challenging texts that we translate is still a long way away.
